ADA Door Openers at the Town Office!

ADA

June 12, 2020

We are pleased to announce that four ADA compliant door openers have been installed at the Readfield Town Office!  The openers, mechanical latches, and wireless push buttons were installed over the past few weeks on the front entry doors as well as the interior access doors on the first and second floors.  The opener system improves access for all residents, not just those with limited mobility.  We were hoping to showcase the new openers with the June Town Meeting / Secret Ballot Vote, but unfortunately we've had to move that to the Readfield Elementary School on July 14, in response to the Coronavirus.

This work is a first phase component of a three-year plan to bring the building up to current accessibility standards and fulfill a long-standing need for our residents.  Phase two of the plan is budgeted in the upcoming fiscal year and will include the installation of ADA compliant fixtures in the second-floor restroom and restroom door openers on both floors.  ADA compliant fixtures have already been installed in the first-floor restroom.  The third and final phase of the project will address the parking lot and walkway in front of the building and correct issues with excessive grade.

We hope the openers, and eventual completion of this important project, make your next trip to the Town Office just a little easier.

Be well,

Eric Dyer,
Readfield Town Manager
