On November 2, 2021 the Town of Readfield will hold a Special Town Meeting in conjunction with the scheduled State Referendum.  Please visit our Voting Information page for complete details.

Transparency in government is critically important and this news item is focused on providing local voting information.  The Special Town Meeting Warrant is composed of ten Articles.  Article 1 is to elect a moderator for the meeting.  Articles 2-4 relate to Broadband Internet.  They help to establish a set of administrative options and tools to pursue an economic development and quality of life investment that the voters have expressed an interest in and may be willing to pay for.  Articles 6-10 relate to changes to the Land Use Ordinance.  These changes were originally proposed in June as a single article but are being presented again as six separate articles, and without any clarification or changes relating to community center/clubs.  That issue will likely be addressed at a later date.  To review the Warrant and learn more about the articles please take a look at the Warrant and Explanation document.

In-person secret ballot voting will be held at the Kents Hill School - Alfond Athletic Center, 1617 Main St.  Absentee voting is strongly encouraged as a matter of public health and absentee ballots will be available from the Town Office after October 1.  Additional information on absentee voting can be found on the Voting Information page or by contacting the Town Office. Similarly, detailed information on Broadband Internet and proposed amendments to the Land Use Ordinance can also be found through these channels.

Another excellent source of information is the Public Hearing scheduled for 6:30pm on Thursday, October 7th at the Town Office.  Here’s how it will work:

  • The Public Hearing will be a combination of remote participation and in-person attendance.  Reasonable public health measures may be put in place.
  • We will have representatives from the Select Board, Budget Committee, Broadband Internet Committee, and Planning Board available to hear public comment and answer questions.
  • The event will be broadcast on cable channel 7, and potentially on Facebook or YouTube.
  • The viewing public may participate by calling (929) 436-2866 or using the online ZOOM platform with Meeting ID: 881 4960 8367 and Passcode: 781405.
  • Reasonable comment time limits will be applied and will be accepted from Readfield residents.

There are many important warrant articles to consider. Please take a moment to review the Warrant and Explanation document and utilize other available resources.  Thank you for your participation and engagement during this challenging time.
