Transfer Station Senior Hours Come to an End

"Senior Hours" at the Transfer Station are no longer being offered.

These special hours on Thursdays were added early on during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to help keep one of our more vulnerable populations safe.  They had continued since and provided added convenience for older residents.  It was recently pointed out that these hours could be challenged legally because they limit access for younger residents.  After review and consultation with our Town Attorney we found this to be a legitimate issue and so will not continue with the special hours (opening the facility up to everyone would complicate operations and create conflicts with commercial waste haulers and contractors).

We will be returning to the same operating schedule we had for several years before the pandemic, which includes four days open to the public for most of the year and a fifth half-day on Sundays during the summer months.  In consultation with our partner communities, staff, AFSCME 93, commercial waste haulers, and others we will investigate whether any additional hours might be offered.
